Celebrate!

Marie and the twins are in Peru...Robert is in Los Angeles. I got to go to work today!

Rob's X Game Debut

The X Games are an annual competition of Xtreme sports like motocross, surfing, skateboarding, bmx biking etc. BMX biking has been part of the games for years but this is the first year they have had an event for 'street riders', which is the area where Rob has excelled. Rob was invited to attend and be part of just 12 men chosen from all over the country to compete in the first annual event.

Melissa just got a text message from Rob in Los Angeles at the X Games. He didn't ride very good...doesn't get to ride tomorrow.

The cards were seemed to be stacked against him this year. The person who invited him told him the wrong date. He should've traveled to LA 8/29 but he didn't fly until today, 8/30. Because of that he missed out on a day of practice at the park. He has also been struggling with back problems the past few months...seeing a chiropractor so it's on the mend...just not very strong.

On My Way Home From Work Today

So I was on my way home from work today...heard about an accident. Great, that will tack on another 1/2 hour to the 45 minute commute.

Well this was not just another accident. When I saw how bad the traffic was I went back to the office to wait it out. Started this blog during the wait, actually. Reports were bad, bad, bad. I got tired of waiting and left at 7:15 to take my chances. It took me almost an hour to drive the 3 or 4 miles to the accident site where a 100 ton storage tank rolled off the truck and into the middle of the freeway and blocked 4 lanes of traffic.

Don't Try This At Home

Peru Adventure

This past fall (2007) Marie was perusing the internet and came across a humanitarian service trip that caught her attention. Probably so because some kids in area had ventured into distant and/or third world countries on similar excursions. Each them said only good things about their experiences. Marie decided to float the idea by Stephanie and Kelsie to see if they had any interest in the idea. She sold it to them as a 'senior trip'.

The idea caught hold of their attention and the plans started to come together, i.e. dad made the first of a series of large cash deposits to reserve a place on their chosen adventure which was this: Alta Chinca Peru to help reconstruct homes that were demolished in a massive earthquake in August of 2007. Their assignment was subsequently changed and relocated to Cusco Peru for sight seeing and then Ollantaytambo to assist at an orphanage.

Watch this touching video and then check out their
adventures.
